The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has disclosed that Parliament expects the submission of renegotiated Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) between the government and Independent Power Producers, describing current terms as unsustainable.

The Bawku Central MP said the House would carefully scrutinise any new agreements.

According to Mr Ayariga, the existing PPAs impose a heavy financial burden on the economy and consumers, making power expensive and straining public finances. He said Parliament would insist on fair, transparent, and value-for-money arrangements.

“The current terms are unsustainable and place a heavy burden on our economy and our people,” he said. “This Parliament will scrutinize new agreements that secure a fair, reliable, and affordable cost of power for Ghana.”

He also highlighted the proposed 330kV transmission line project between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, describing it as a strategic investment in regional integration and energy security. The project will link Bingerville to Dunkwa-on-Offin.

Mr Ayariga said Parliament would ensure the project delivers real value and strengthens Ghana’s position within the West African Power Pool, adding that energy security was fundamental to industrial growth and national development.
