A baby who was stolen from Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra has been safely recovered following a swift police operation, with a female suspect now in custody.
The infant was allegedly taken from the facility on Tuesday, February 18, at Mamprobi in the Ablekuma South constituency.
The incident triggered an immediate response from the Ghana Police Service, who launched a search operation upon receiving a report from hospital authorities and the child’s family.
The identity of the suspect has not yet been publicly disclosed, as enquiries continue to establish the full details surrounding the incident, including how she gained access to the child.
The recovery of the baby was facilitated with the support of the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, who played a leading role in coordinating between the police, community members and the distressed family.
The MP accompanied officials to ensure the infant was safely returned to the Mamprobi Polyclinic.
Upon arrival at the health facility, medical personnel immediately assessed the baby’s condition. Doctors have confirmed that the child is currently receiving treatment and remains under close observation as a precaution. Health officials have described the infant as stable.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, was also present at the clinic following the baby’s recovery.
She expressed relief at the safe return of the child and commended the police and all stakeholders involved for their prompt intervention.
