President John Mahama has announced a significant financial injection of GH¢40 million into Ghana's creative industry.
Half of the funds are earmarked specifically for the country's struggling film sectors.
Delivering his State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Friday, President Mahama positioned human creativity as a critical pillar of the future economy, particularly in the face of rising automation and artificial intelligence.
"Mr. Speaker, our tourism and creative arts sector has a lot to offer," the President stated.
"Our economy will not be built only by traditional sectors but also by human creativity. Human creativity sectors that will absorb those people who will be displaced from the shortfall by the new AI technologies that are being rolled out."
Acknowledging the global reach of Ghanaian content creators, he noted that "creatives using the new media are giving our nation greater prominence than we could have achieved through any first-class traditional media outlet."
To harness this potential, the government has committed substantial resources.
President Mahama announced, "The government has allocated 20 million Ghana cedis to the film sector alone. This is going to the film sector to support Kumawood and Gallywood and all the woods."
In a further boost, he revealed that an additional GH¢20 million has been allocated for other creative sub-sectors. "Mr. Speaker, another 20 million has been given for the other creative sectors. I believe that this fair injection of money will boost our creative sectors."
Demonstrating his personal commitment to the industry's growth, the President assured stakeholders of his direct involvement.
"Mr. Speaker, I wish to assure the creative industry and the Ministry of Tourism that I will be your personal ambassador for the promotion of tourism and the creative sector."
