The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working alongside the Peruvian Embassy in Accra, published a book focusing on “Peru–Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation.”
This book is part of Peru’s series called “Immortalizing Bilateral Relations” and it looks back at almost forty years of diplomatic ties between Peru and Ghana, starting from when they officially became related in 1987. It highlights important moments, what they have in common, and projects they’ve worked on together that have strengthened their relationship.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that the book is a great record of how Ghana and Peru have grown together.
He mentioned that even though they're on opposite sides of the Atlantic, the book shows how they've built diplomatic connections, brought together by shared beliefs in democracy, working with other countries, and developing in ways that include everyone.
Ablakwa pointed out that both nations have a proud history in the UN, having each produced a former Secretary-General – Javier Pérez de Cuéllar from Peru and Kofi Annan from Ghana – whose leadership still influences international relations today.
He also mentioned that Peru is a key partner for boosting collaboration in trade, education, tourism, culture, and diplomacy with other nations. Ablakwa added that this commemorative book isn’t just about looking back at what they’ve achieved, but also about planning for the future, encouraging both countries to turn their long-standing goodwill into real economic and development partnerships.
The Ambassador of Peru, Rosa Liliana Gómez de Weston, emphasized that the book is a concrete symbol of the friendship that has grown between Ghana and Peru over time. She pointed out that both countries have gone through similar historical experiences, including their fights for independence.
