The High Commission of India in Accra has announced the opening of applications for scholarships for Ghanaian students under programmes offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The scholarships, administered by the ICCR under the Ministry of External Affairs, will enable Ghanaian students to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies at recognised universities and institutes across India in a broad range of disciplines.

According to the High Commission, the initiative forms part of India’s ongoing educational cooperation with Ghana, aimed at strengthening academic exchange and capacity development.

For the 2026–2027 academic year, two main scholarship schemes have been made available to Ghanaian applicants.

Under the India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme, 70 slots have been allocated for Ghanaian students to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in both STEM and non-STEM disciplines at participating Indian universities.

A second programme, the Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship Scheme, provides opportunities for students interested in Indian culture and the arts.

Areas of study under this scheme include dance, music, theatre, performing arts, sculpture, Indian languages and Indian cuisine. It also includes a one-year diploma course in yoga offered by selected institutions.

Financial support

The ICCR scholarships provide comprehensive financial assistance to successful applicants. The package includes return economy-class airfare, full tuition fees, a monthly stipend, accommodation support and other academic allowances in line with ICCR regulations.

Application process

Applications must be submitted online through the ICCR Admission to Alumni (A2A) Scholarship Portal.

The High Commission indicated that the application portal opened on 27th February 2026, while the deadline for submission is 15th April 2026.

Prospective applicants have been advised to carefully review the eligibility criteria, academic requirements and details of participating universities before completing their applications.
