RuffTown Records has etched its name into Ghana’s music history with a groundbreaking achievement at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, becoming the first label to secure Artiste of the Year nominations for two different female artists.
At the centre of this milestone is RuffTown’s founder and executive producer, Ricky Nana Agyemang (Bullet), who now stands as the first producer in Ghana to guide two female acts to such a prestigious level.
Leading the charge this year is Wendy Shay, whose dominance across multiple categories underscores her continued rise in the industry. She has been nominated for Artiste of the Year, Album/EP of the Year for Ready, and Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste.
Her hit track “Crazy Love,” featuring Olivetheboy, has also secured nominations for Most Popular Song of the Year, Best Afrobeats Song, and Collaboration of the Year.
In addition, her international single “Too Late Remix (2.0)” with Bedjine, Phina, and Guchi has earned a nod for International Collaboration of the Year—further cementing her growing global appeal.
This achievement builds on the legacy of the late Ebony Reigns, RuffTown’s first breakout female star. With chart-topping hits like “Poison,” “Sponsor,” and “Maame Hwɛ,” Ebony reshaped the narrative for women in Ghanaian music.
Her journey began with an Unsung Artiste of the Year nomination in 2016, before she made history in 2018 by winning Artiste of the Year at the TGMA—alongside Afropop Song of the Year and Album of the Year.
Together, the achievements of Ebony Reigns and Wendy Shay highlight RuffTown Records’ unique role in elevating female talent to the highest level of recognition in Ghana’s music industry.
The label’s success reflects a deliberate commitment to empowering women in music, setting a new standard and influencing the future direction of the industry.
