Former Vice President and the NPP’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed sorrow over the tragic collapse of a building in Accra Newtown, which claimed lives and left several others injured.
In a social media post on Monday, March 30, Dr Bawumia extended his condolences to the affected families, describing the incident as deeply distressing.
“I have received with sadness, news of the tragic building collapse in Accra Newtown this afternoon. The building is said to be a place of Christian worship. May the lives lost painfully rest in peace, and my deepest sympathy goes to the families,” he stated.
He also offered prayers for those still affected by the incident and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“I pray that all trapped are brought out safely, and the injured recover swiftly,” he added, while commending emergency responders for their swift intervention.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 29, when an uncompleted four-storey structure near the Experimental D/A School, reportedly being used as a place of worship, collapsed during a church gathering.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, 23 persons were trapped in the debris, with 20 successfully rescued and taken to hospital, while three—two females and one male—were confirmed dead.
