Ghanaian swimmer Nubia Adjei has taken a huge step towards the Olympic Games after earning an Olympic Scholarship for Athletes ahead of Los Angeles 2028.
The scholarship, which was facilitated by the Ghana Swimming Association through the Ghana Olympic Committee, will end in August 2028, subject to the athlete maintaining discipline and a clean anti-doping record.
The initiative is designed to support athletes from smaller National Olympic Committees financially, with a strong emphasis on female competitors, by enhancing their training and competition exposure as they aim to qualify for the Olympic Games.
Under the programme, beneficiaries must compete in individual sports on the Los Angeles 2028 programme and demonstrate a high technical level backed by results in recognised international competitions.
Athletes are also required to have limited access to alternative funding, ensuring the scholarship provides meaningful support, while maintaining a clean record in line with Olympic Charter, IOC, and Ghana Olympic Committee standards.
Nubia’s selection comes as little surprise following her consistent rise in Ghana swimming.

She has been part of the national team for over five years, steadily building a reputation as one of the country’s standout performers in the pool.
At the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, Adjei delivered a remarkable showing, breaking Ghana’s national record in the women’s 50m butterfly.
She has also enjoyed success on the continental stage, winning multiple medals for Ghana at major competitions, including the 2025 Africa Aquatics zone 2 championships held in Accra.
