Gigi’s Kitchen, owned by Ghanaian chef Gina Abbam-Baidoo, has been selected to represent Ghana at the second edition of the Onga West African Jollof Battle after emerging winner of the national selection competition.

The competition, organised by Onga, brought together 10 finalists who showcased their culinary skills and creativity in a bid to secure Ghana’s slot at the regional contest scheduled for August 22, 2026.

Gina Abbam-Baidoo, popularly known through her Gigi’s Kitchen brand, emerged victorious after beating nine other talented finalists, earning the opportunity to fly Ghana’s flag at the West African culinary showdown.

The finalists included Ewurama Biney, Bra Yaw’s Daughter, Ellen Baffour, Khadijah Khalid, Chefolele, Chef Dede, Khatumi Ndebugri Isa, Jhamin Botwe and Rafiatu Yussif.

A talented chef with a deep passion for Ghanaian cuisine, Gina has built a reputation for her creativity, consistency and excellence in preparing authentic local dishes, particularly jollof rice.

Her culinary journey has been marked by notable achievements, including winning the Frytol Enriching Lives competition, where she demonstrated her innovation and commitment to transforming traditional recipes into exceptional dishes.

Gina’s jollof rice is celebrated for its rich flavour, perfect texture and authentic Ghanaian taste, reflecting her ability to blend traditional cooking methods with professional culinary techniques.

Through Gigi’s Kitchen, she has continued to promote Ghana’s food culture while inspiring young chefs and showcasing the hospitality and creativity associated with Ghanaian cuisine.

At the Onga West African Jollof Battle, Gina will compete against representatives from other West African countries for the regional title and a grand prize of $5,000.

The competition celebrates culinary excellence across the region, giving chefs a platform to demonstrate their unique interpretations of jollof rice while highlighting the rich and diverse food traditions of West Africa.

The regional contest is expected to take place on August 22, 2026, where Gina Abbam-Baidoo will seek to secure victory for Ghana in one of the region’s most celebrated culinary battles.
