Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) has begun preparations to mark seven decades of academic excellence, discipline and service to Ghana, with the launch of its 70th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, 8 August 2026.

Under the theme, “Shaping Character, Cultivating Minds and Nursing Souls,” the anniversary seeks not only to celebrate the school’s remarkable journey but also to renew its commitment to producing responsible citizens for Ghana’s future.

The launch assembled alumni and students of KUMACA and the wider community, including government officials, traditional leaders, parents, and other stakeholders.

The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s achievements while looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the next generation.

Addressing the gathering, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, underscored the critical role of discipline in education and personal development.

He encouraged students to respect authority, honour their teachers and shun violence, stressing that discipline remains an essential bridge between aspirations and achievement.

“Students gathered here, I am urging you: do not assault your teachers, do not vandalize school property even if you are in disagreement. Mob justice is one that our laws frown against. You are encouraged to use the laid-down procedures in seeking justice and seeking redress as far as any issues are concerned,” he said.

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Ben Abdallah Alhasan, pledged the Assembly’s support towards KUMACA’s ambition of attaining Grade A status.

He assured the school community that the Assembly would work with management, the alumni, traditional authorities and parents to address the institution’s pressing needs and strengthen its development.

“Education is a fundamental driver of development and its advancement must not be left to government alone,” he said.

He therefore called for a collective effort to improve schools and create an environment in which students can excel and talents can be nurtured for the benefit of society.

The Global President of the Kumasi Academy Past Students Association, KAPSA AKUNINI, H.E. Okunini Harry Boakye, also reaffirmed the commitment of past students to the continued development of their alma mater.

He highlighted the important role alumni play in supporting teaching and learning as well as infrastructure development, while calling on past students to unite behind the school and help sustain its legacy.

The emotional connection between KUMACA and its old students was perhaps best captured by Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, Nkwantakesehene and Chairperson for the occasion.

“I breathe KUMACA. I feel KUMACA. I smell KUMACA. I sleep with KUMACA in my heart,” he noted.

The declaration resonated strongly with the gathering, reflecting the deep bond that generations of students and alumni have developed with the school.

As KUMACA looks towards its anniversary in 2027, the celebration is being positioned as more than a commemoration of the past. It is also a call to stakeholders to invest in the institution’s next chapter.

The school is calling on alumni to contribute resources, mentorship and expertise; parents and guardians to partner with the school in nurturing disciplined and excellent students; and students to uphold the values of character, scholarship and service.

Teachers, staff, community leaders and other stakeholders are similarly being encouraged to support initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, student welfare and educational programmes.

With a renewed emphasis on discipline, collaboration, character development and academic excellence, KUMACA is seeking to strengthen its position among Ghana’s leading schools.

The anniversary therefore provides an opportunity to celebrate the past while laying the foundation for a stronger future.
