The Police administration has vowed to flush out all criminals in their bid to end violent crimes in the country.“We will not sit down unconcerned for them to kill us or push us away from engaging in our legitimate duties. So should an armed robber decide to fight the police openly or to discharge his illegal weapon on ours, which is legitimate, we are duty bound to defend ourselves,” DSP Kwesi Ofori, Head of Police Public Relations told Joy News on Friday.The police have come under scathing attacks from human rights campaigners following the ‘shoot to kill’ tactics the service has adopted in instances when its men came under attack by criminal elements.A number of robbers have been shot dead in the past few weeks after gun battles with the Police in Accra and Kumasi, heightening accusations of unprofessional behavior by the police.But DSP Ofori argued the survival of the police and the rights of victims of armed robbers must reign supreme over the lives of armed robbers who open fire on the police in armed attacks.He cited an armed robbery incident at Mampong near Kumasi where victims after being robbed of their belongings were forced to have open sex in the middle of the road.That, he said should be the concern of the human right campaigners.He gave the assurance the police will be careful in fighting crime, but will not entertain any form of brutality from the robbers.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
