Two Granbird buses have collided at Duapompo along the Kumasi-Accra Highway, leaving 68 people involved in the accident, with 67 sustaining various injuries.
The accident occurred at about 10:31 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The GNFS said the buses involved were a VIP Granbird, with registration number GW-5373-23, owned by Chairman ION and driven by Simon Azuma, and a KN KIA Granbird, with registration number AK-980-26, owned by KOD Transport and driven by Francis Yeboah.
Each bus was carrying 34 passengers at the time of the crash.
The Fire Service said 67 injured victims were rescued by members of the public before its crew arrived at the scene.
The victims were subsequently conveyed to the Konongo Government Hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the VIP bus, however, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Fire Service crew.
According to the GNFS, the crew used a spreader in a dashboard roll method to rescue him. He was subsequently conveyed to the hospital in an ambulance with registration number GV 589-20.
The crash caused partial damage to the cowl of the VIP Granbird and the rear section of the KN KIA Granbird.

The GNFS has not yet established the cause of the accident.
It said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
