The Adisadel College 2002 Year Group has launched a GH¢4.6 million Clean Water legacy project aimed at providing a sustainable source of potable water for the school and addressing persistent water shortages affecting students and staff.

The project, launched as part of the year group's anniversary activities, is also designed to promote education on water conservation, sustainability and the responsible use of natural resources.

Speaking at the launch, Clint Yoosi Boa-Amponsem said access to safe and reliable water was essential to human dignity and effective education.

“A school cannot fully achieve its education objectives if students and staff are faced with inadequate access to clean water,” he said.

He explained that the vision for the project goes beyond providing water, with the facility expected to combine water infrastructure with education, sustainability and innovation.

According to him, the project will provide students with opportunities to learn about water conservation and environmental responsibility while addressing a critical infrastructure need at the school.

The Guest of Honour, Edmond Boateng, Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Ghana, urged members of the 2002 Year Group to maintain the momentum generated by the launch through effective planning, fundraising and accountability.

He called for clear timelines, defined responsibilities and regular updates to members and supporters throughout the implementation process.

“Let every member contribute according to his means, whether through financial support, professional expertise, partnerships, or personal influence,” he said.

Mr Boateng stressed that the initiative should ultimately result in a completed project capable of providing lasting value to the school.

“We owe it to our Adisadel College to ensure that this worthy vision does not remain a promise, but becomes a completed and enduring legacy,” he added.

The Headmaster of Adisadel College, Samuel Agudogo, described the project as timely, saying water shortages have occasionally disrupted academic activities at the school.

He said students sometimes have to leave their regular activities to search for water when supplies are unavailable.

“The child will have to go looking for water, by the time he comes back, it's lesson time or he has missed some classes,” he said.

Mr Agudogo expressed the school's appreciation to the 2002 Year Group and said he hoped the project would eventually connect both the lower and upper schools to a reliable source of potable water.

He said this would significantly ease the school's water challenges and create a healthier environment for teaching and learning.

The project forms part of an alumni-led effort to improve infrastructure at Adisadel College while using the intervention to promote greater awareness of sustainability among students.

If successfully implemented, the GH¢4.6 million initiative is expected to provide a long-term solution to the school's water challenges and leave a lasting legacy for current and future generations of students.
