Two of three plants that produce water for residents mainly living in the western part of Accra are out of service, Joy News has learnt.
The plants named Candy and Damag are said to be down because of a shortage of alum, the main chemical used in the treatment of the water.
It is not clear how long the only surviving plant, could continue to run.
A source told Joy News, the loss of the two plants means the already chronic water supply situation would be further worsened as the Weija Pumping Station would be nine million gallons short of its daily production of 51 million.
There is however said to be a much bigger problem of lack of back up supplies of chemicals, materials and spare parts which could result in a major water supply crisis anytime in the near future.
