Officials of the Ghana Gas Company have assured that full-capacity production of gas at full will begin April 1.
However, they say the production of the gas will not add on to the generation capacity of power in the country.
The company, led by its Chief Executive, Dr George Sipa Yankey as well as Petroleum Minister Emmanuel Kofi Buah are responding to promises made in the past before the Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances.
Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey who was at the hearings, reports that Dr. Sipa Yankey told the Committee going on full stream will reduce the cost of energy production.
The natural gas from the Jubilee Field is relatively cheaper compared to crude oil hitherto used to produce electricity.
The Chief Executive is hopeful enough gas would be supplied to the thermal plants such as Sunon Asogli and TICO to power plants left idle because of shortage of gas or crude oil to enable them increase production to impact positively on Ghana's power crisis.
The Aboadze Thermal Plant needs about 140million standard cubic feet gas to operate at full capacity which Ghana Gas Company would be ready in April to supply more than that.
Dr. Sipa Yankey said the company is now producing about 74 million standard cubic feet of gas to be scaled up to 150 million standard cubic feet.
