The Nakpanduri police in the Northern Region have mounted a search for a suspected armed robber who allegedly attacked the police charge office in Nakpanduri and made away with an AK 47 riffle.
The alleged robber, Johnson Kombien, a.k.a. Borger, was also reported to have shot one of his victims in the left leg during a robbery operation. The victim is currently receiving medical care.
According to police sources and some residents of Napkanduri, Borger has vanishing powers which enables him to outwit the police anytime they are out for him.
Many also suspect that Borger enjoys support from some residents including some traditional leaders of the town as well as some personnel of the security services in the district and that emboldens him to carry out his nefarious activities.
Meanwhile, three members of a robbery gang suspected to be led by Borger, have been arrested in Nakpanduri after the police mounted an operation in search for them.
The three, Kofi Naanan, a.k.a. Accra Boy 25, Laamar Laar John, 28 and Labong Miniya, 21, were arrested on July 30.
The main target of the police operation was Borger, the leader of the gang, who was alleged to be leading an assault on residents of Nakpanduri and its surrounding towns.
Briefing the media, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Inspectar Ebenezer Tetteh, said the three were picked up in the town following a tip-off from an informant that Borger and his group were in town, apparently preparing for another robbery.
He said, following the information, the police mounted a special operation in search of the group and this led to the arrest of the three.
One of the suspects, Kofi Naanan, was picked up after he was found in Borger's room.
In his possession were a single-barrelled locally manufactured gun, police helmet, a hoofer and DVD player.
He was later identified by one of his victims, who, claimed the suspect had robbed him of an amount of G H¢ 1,184 at gun point.
The other two were picked up in the Nakpanduri town. However, Borger and one other suspect identified only as Combat managed to escape. The three will soon be put before court.
