Pastor James Legge of the Gabrieno Ministry, on Sunday urged churches to use part of their resources to support the poor, under-privileged, needy children and other vulnerable people in society. He expressed worry that some churches spent extravagantly on advertisements and conferences to the neglect of the needy. Pastor Legge made the call when the church as part of its silver jubilee celebration, donated items worth GH¢800 and GH¢2,000 cash to the Christian Faith Foster Home at Frafraha near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region. He appealed to individuals and organisations to contribute to the smooth running of children’s homes since “We cannot leave the destiny of inmates of such facilities to chance because it is not through their fault that they find themselves there”. Pastor Legge urged parents to invest in the welfare and education of their children to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development, and expressed regret that parental irresponsibility has resulted in some children being thrown onto the streets and orphanages. He condemned parents who “abandon their babies or children in the streets, forests, gutters and at other inglorious and undignified places thereby jeopardising their future”. Pastor Legge reminded parents that those who laboured to cater for their children received fulfillment for being obedient to God. Prophetess Nora Addoquaye Mensah, founder of the Ministry, said the church would continue to assist children’s homes because that formed part of its social and spiritual responsibility. He appealed to parents to demonstrate love for their children by providing them with their needs. Madam Henrietta Asare-Abiagye, Assistant Director of the Home, commended the Ministry for the donation and appealed to other religious bodies to come to the aid of the Home. Master Ellias Nartey, a Junior High School student at the Home, urged other organisations and philanthropists to support the facility, saying “donations to the home have not been regular this time unlike the previous years.” The Ministry prayed for the inmates, instructors and management of the Home.
