Two men have been confirmed dead in Accra from machete wounds following clashes Tuesday between the Andani and Abudu families of Dagbon at the Konkomba Market in Agbogbloshie, Accra.
Police told Joy News three others who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at the Police Hospital where the dead have also been deposited.
The two dead men, suspected to be in their mid 30s, were said to be among a group of ‘fighters’ who were brought in from Northern Ghana over the weekend to support one of the factions in the chieftaincy dispute that has left the traditional community sharply divided.
Armed police stormed the crowded market that also serves as the dwelling place of several hundreds to quell the clashes which started on Friday. It is unclear what sparked the latest fatal clash, but the two families have been locked in a bitter chieftaincy dispute since 2002 over who has the right to enskin a chief.
