Relatives of three men butchered to death in the Agbogbloshie clashes on Tuesday are calling for justice against the perpetrators of the crime.
In what was said to be struggle over turf, residents of the Agbogbloshie market were stunned after three men were butchered to death and several others hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries.
Alhaji Aliu Alidu, father to 38 year old Alhassan Salli, one of the victims said the attackers must be pursued and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to the residents of Agblogbloshie.
“They should be arrested and punished so that those staying there will not do anything,” he told Evans Mensah shortly after the burial of his son and two others.
His demands notwithstanding, Alhaji Aliu does not believe justice will be served.
He said until the perpetrators of those crimes are brought to book, justice will merely be a rhetoric for the police officials.
“Until they do it for me to see it, I don’t trust them.
“They are saying it is their time and it is their government that is in power so they can kill and go scot free,” he lamented.
He described his son as a scrap dealer who was violently attacked in the February clashes and had to flee for his life.
He did not know his son had returned to Accra, until he was informed that he had been murdered in the clashes that ensued in Agbogbloshie.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NPP may be charged for “abatement of violence” following the clashes in Agbogbloshie.
He returned to Police CID on Tuesday in the company of nine lawyers to assist with investigations and was made to sign a caution statement.
He was later granted a self recognisance bail.
Speaking to Joy News, the aggrieved General Secretary said it was impossible for him to be connected to such a violent act.
One of his lawyers Atta Akyea said the only involvement of his client was to advise a supporter of the NPP to notify the police of the return of some NPP supporters to Agbogbloshie where they resided prior to their departure to Tamale in February.
