The Executive Chairman of the Great Argon Holding Limited, Mr. Torgbor Mensah, has called on the Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) and Metropolitan Assemblies to collaborate to ensure order in the installation of billboards to avoid clutter in our cities.
He made this call at a workshop on new trends in the outdoor advertising industry and the new draft rules on National Standard on Outdoor Advertising, organized by the AAG in Accra.
Mr. Torgbor decried the haphazard manner in which advertising sign posts have cluttered unauthorized sites in cities and advised Metropolitan Assemblies to focus on orderly way of approving installation of billboards for advertisements.
“Outdoor advertising in Ghana is an expensive business with companies paying so much a month to acquire billboards for advertisements”, he said.
He noted that there are professional outdoor advertisers in Ghana who can do world class outdoor advertising without the need to resort to expatriates in the industry. He charged outdoor advertising practitioners to “invest in new technology in signs and billboards”.
Mr. Torgbor emphasized that if Ghanaian outdoor advertisers ensure professionalism in the industry, they will be able to engage in advanced advertising without necessarily falling on foreign contractors.
The new trend in outdoor advertising, he says, is energy sign. “Outdoor advertising is showmanship business,” he added.
“It is important for us as advertising practitioners to network with one another, join the advertising association to interact with colleagues to share ideas on new trends of technology”, he admonished.
