The Upper West branch of the Ghana Society of the Physical Challenged (GSPD) says it is difficult accessing their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund from the Wa Municipal Assembly.
District, Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies in the country are expected to part with 2% of their common fund to persons with disabilities.
The Upper West Regional Secretary of the GSPD, Ibrahim Sani, said since the passage of the law it has been difficult for members to access their share. They are only given a token, he said.
Mr Sani said the district assembly has also on some occasions failed to honour budget requests from the society.
He cited an instance where the society was given GH¢500 when indeed it had presented a budget of GH¢4,000 for its annual national conference at Tamale.
Mr Sani urged district assemblies to respect disability rights as enshrined in the constitution.
Meanwhile the Municipal Coordinating Director for the Wa Assembly, Mohammed Rufai, has described the assertion by the GSPD as unfair.
He said the assembly has always gone to the aid of the society, even to assisting individual members.
