Members of the Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry (GAPI), made up of music producers, will on October 2 go to the polls to elect new executives who will run the activities of the association for the next two years. BEATWAVES gathered that members of the association have lost confidence in the current executive body headed by John Mensah Sarpong. Members of the board of trustees were forced to step down to make way for fresh elections to be conducted on October 2. The event is to be held at the national headquarters of GAPI in Accra. Positions to be fiercely contested include; Chairman, 1st and 2nd Vice Chairman, Secretary, Financial Secretary and National Organizer. A source close to the election committee told BEATWAVES that the committee would hold its first vetting session in Kumasi at the Cultural Centre at 10am. He continued that on September 11, candidates in Accra will be vetted at the association’s headquarters. The source also explained that the filing fee for the chairmanship position was GH¢1000, GH¢700 for the first and second chairmen and GH¢500 for other positions. Members of the election committee include Yaw Oxbon as the chairman; with Nana Safo, Asiedu Nyame, David Anim Obeng and Stephen Kwame Dwomoh as members. Source:Ghana Music.com
