The government says it may be forced to intensify a 15-hour curfew imposed on Bunkprugu/Yunyo in the Northern Region if residents do not behave.

The comment comes as the chiefs and people of the town say the curfew, imposed over a week ago, has begun to thwart economic and social activities.

The curfew was imposed following a chieftaincy conflict which claimed two lives and destroyed several properties.

Some residents who spoke to Joy News said the curfew is crippling businesses.

Shop owners say they have to close their shops earlier than normal and this is affecting their business.

Government and private sector workers say their productivity is being affected by the curfew because they are not unable to stay in the office after working hours to complete their work.

But addressing the chiefs and people after spending some time in the community, Interior Minister Mark Woyongo, said the request to lift the curfew cannot be granted now until residents conduct themselves.

He warned the residents not to take up arms to solve their problems.

"No government will sit down and look at you solve that problem through the barrel of the gun," he said.

He cautioned residents to behave themselves otherwise “the curfew will not be relaxed and if you cause more trouble we will give you more hours to stay inside”.
