Mr Asare Akuffo of the Ghana Association of Bankers was elected as the new President of the Governing Council of the Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) last week.
The Governing Council of PEF is the highest decision making body of the Foundation comprising of representatives of the member associations namely Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Ghana Employers Association (GEA), Federations of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) & Ghana Chamber of Mines (GCM).
Mr. Asare Akuffo is currently the Managing Director of HFC Bank (Ghana) Limited (formerly Home Finance Company Limited). He was a key member of the pioneer management team that successfully implemented the housing finance component of the International Development Association (IDA) financed Urban II Project.
He also led the team that prepared the Bank for the commencement of universal banking business. Before joining the company, he was an Investment Manager at Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). He is a graduate of the University of Ghana Business School and a Chartered Accountant by profession.
The Council also elected Ms Joyce Rosalind Aryee as the new Vice President of PEF. She is the representative of the President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines on the Governing Council. Ms. Aryee is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
Ms. Aryee is a Senior Mentor for the African Leadership Initiative, a leadership formation programme whose vision is to seek to develop the next generation of value-based and community leaders of Africa.
She is the Chairperson of the Global Compact Local Network in Ghana and serves on the Board of Energy Foundation. She is also recipient of the CIMG Marketing Woman of the year 2007 award. On recognition of her immense contributions, an honorary doctorate degree was conferred on Ms. Aryee in July 2009 by the University of Mines & Technology (UMaT).
