The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Asiedu Nketia has rebuffed calls for a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation Ekow Spio Garbrah. The one time flag-bearer candidate of the NDC at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday expressed regrets over delays by the party hierarchy to settle disputes between himself (Garbrah) and other leading members of the party. The media had been inundated with accusations between Ekwow Spio Garbrah on one hand, and Ato Ahwoi and Koku Anyidoho on the other forcing a truce from party chairman Kwabena Adjei. “I regret to say here today after two weeks of staying in Ghana and waiting for an invitation at which any concern could be addressed, I have received no such invitation,” Ekwow Spio Garbrah lamented. But in an interview with Joy News Bernard Saibu the General Secretary said he was “surprised” over the comments by Dr Garbrah because there has been no such decision to invite him, and when there is, he will be duly informed. “Indeed if he had been invited by the party, the letter will state who he should report to and at what meeting he was invited to,” he said, adding the party will exhaust its disciplinary procedure and grievance resolution procedure without being dictated to. According to him, the party hierarchy may have expressed an intention to invite him, but said that alone is no justification why Mr Garbrah will stampede the party hierarchy into meeting him. He said the CTO head may have other reasons for coming into the country, adding “if he is convinced he has offended the rules of the party, that is a different matter and he knows what to do.” Asked if Mr Garbrah had broken any rules, the Genral Secretary said the party was yet to decide on that. Mr Nketiah also castigated Mr Garbrah for violating the party’s guidelines on elections. The CTO boss announced his intention to run for the party’s vice chairmanship position in December, but the General Secretary said that announcement is “premature.” He said until the branch elections were completed it was illegal for any party member to declare intentions to run for national positions.
