The New Patriotic Party is facing a legal battle over its parliamentary primaries after the High Court slapped an injunction on the process.
The case against the party seeks to set aside an announcement made by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong clearing a number of aspirants following a steering committee meeting.
The NPP Youth Organiser of Tema West, Joseph Boabeng Twumasi, who secured the injunction says it is not in the place of the National Steering Committee to clear the six aspirants.
He argues the NPP should constitute a National Appeals Board to sit over the case of the aspirants who had been disqualified at the regional level.
Joseph Boabeng Twumasi is not worried that his actions could throw the primaries out of gear.
He says the NPP could constitute the National Appeals Board and sit on the cases and decide by Monday if the aspirants are qualified.
The plaintiff who is not a parliamentary aspirant, says as a member of the party, the action taken by the NPP National Steering Committee affects the party at the constituency level.
Carlos Ahenkorah of the Tema West constituency and some three other aspirantsare beneficiaries of the decision by the NPP’s Appeals Committee.

They were cleared to go ahead to contest parliamentary primaries set for June 13.
The court says the aspirants cannot hold themselves out as qualified to contest the primaries.
The NPP Communications Director says the legal dispute “shouldn’t really cause any serious disruption” of the primaries.
He told Joy News, the primaries will go ahead in all 275 constituencies expect the affected one.
