The bodies of fourteen miners have been retrieved from an underground mining pit in which they were trapped at Dompoase in the Wassa Akropong area of the Western Region.
The dead, reported to be local miners - or Galamsey operators - were trapped after a huge lump of earth collapsed on them.
Of the dead, 12 were females and the remaining two, men.
An eye witness, Kwame Appiah, told Joy News on Wednesday that at least, four more persons were believed to be in the pit.
Rescuers are said to be digging the ground to find the remaining four persons although the state.
According to Kwame Appiah, the large presence of the women in the mine could be because they were usually contracted to carry the mined sand to 'refineries' for washing and 'fishing' for the precious metals.
The women are therefore needed in large numbers, while the few men do the digging.
Play the audio attached and listen to an eyewitness Kwame Appiah speaking to Joy FM's Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah about the incident.
