The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Adamu Daramani Sakande, is supporting calls for the removal of the Commander of the ABF Detachment Force in Bawku, Capt. Frank Abrokwa, from peace-keeping duties in the municipality.
According to Sakande, Capt. Abrokwa’s conduct in the troubled area will only fan insecurity and create more confusion among the populace because he has taken sides in the conflict.
“…he has lost the confidence of the people because policing, to an extent, has to be by consent. How do you get intelligence information, how do you get reports about people involved in criminal activity when one faction feels that the army, the officer in charge of that operation is targeting them specifically. It’s impossible to do because our own first aim in this conflict is to build confidence (between) the two protagonists and then get them back talking, you don’t do that by humiliating one side…”
Adamu Sakande was speaking to Citi FM over allegations the military commander was involved in stripping naked and parading through the town two men thought to have engaged in a shooting incident in Bawku Wednesday morning.
Regional Minister Mark Wayongo told Joy FM Capt. Abrokwa admitted assaulting the prime suspect in the shooting incident in an attempt to get him to give further evidence but he denied stripping him or anyone naked, claiming the suspect was already half-naked when he was arrested.
