The Northern Regional Director of Information Services Department, Mr Felix Ibrahim, has called on parents in the region to build a better future for their children by sending them to school. He said this is the only way the high illiteracy rate in the Region could be reduced. Mr Ibrahim said this when he launched a one week regional public education campaign on government policies and programmes and on the need for unity, peace and national cohesion. He noted that the Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts to be covered include, Tamale Metropolitan, Yendi Municipal, Central Gonja and Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo. Mr Ibrahim appealed to the people in the region to sustain the peace they are enjoying for government to implement its development agenda for the Region. Alhaji Shamrock Abdulai Mahama, Assistant Director of Ghana Education Service stressed that the with 96 kindergarten, 160 primary schools and 30 junior high schools in the Yendi Municipality, it is possible for every child to have the opportunity of attending school. Alhaji Mahama said all governments promote education and it is important for parents to make use of the infrastructure provided by sending all children of school going age to school. Source: GNA
