Women’s Right Activist, Dr Rose Mensah-Kutin, has condemned the recent publications of naked women involved in sexual acts in some newspapers. According to her, such publications violate the women's right to privacy.
One of such publications appeared on the front page and center spread of the Friday edition of the “Weekend Crusading Guide” where several women were shown in various sex positions.
The women involved, however, claim they were deceived into posing naked for their photographs to be taken to men abroad who are interested in marrying them.
Dr Mensah-Kutin was speaking on Joy FMs midday news on Friday, when she explained that such publications are very disturbing because seeing such pictures in a newspaper will heighten the emotional woes of those involved.
She also maintains that issues that border on sex are private and therefore, it is very wrong for a publication to expose this just to sell their paper.
“It becomes a bit of a problem when newspaper publications use this as a basis for selling their paper,” she said.
“One of the areas of privacy is about what people do behind closed doors in terms of sexual relations,” she stressed; adding that “I think that what someone does with another person in their bedroom is their own private decision.
She further advised media personnel to focus rather on persons who lure others into such acts, the strategies they employ and benefits they accrue, stressing that "the pornographic issue is a big one and it should be attacked head-on by all."
