One after the other, the ladies who engaged in the dirty pornographic act are fleeing the Akuapem township, whilst others are attempting to commit suicide to avoid the shame, following a publication in the New Crusading Guide on how about two hundred Ghanaian young girls in the Akuapem North district (Akropong and its environs) in the Eastern Region were lured with money to posed for nude pictures.
It was learnt that some of the victims, upon seeing their pictures in the New Weekend Crusading Guide fled their various homes whilst some after hearing the news, decided to end their life to avoid ridicule.
One of the victim’s father in an interview said her daughter, fearing she would be punished, absconded at dawn to Kumasi.
“She did not tell me where she was going, I was there when she called me with a space-to-space number to inform me she was in Kumasi,” he said.
Further investigations revealed that there was a particular man in “Kookooase,” one of the Akropong suburbs nicknamed ‘Kwamey’, who convinced the girls, particularly from Akronpong, Mamfe, Tutu and Kitase, that there was a deal between him (Kwamey) and some whites from abroad who are seeking nude pictures of women around the world, and that if the girls were able to pose for the desired naked pictures, “they will benefit from huge financial package (US Dollars) that may come out of the deal”, a source said.
However, Kwamey after the exposure, escaped to a hide-out at Somanya in the Eastern Region, but investigations reveal that the police are at his heels.
In an interview with Nana Oboe, one of the sub-Chiefs in the area, who the New Crusading Guide in its first publication of the story wrongly associated him as the kinpin behind the nude pictures, said the so-called Kwamey who lured the girls into the act sold the camera he used in taking the sexy pictures to him at a price of hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢100) “and to prove how effective the camera was, he used it to snap me and a little girl who happens to be my grandchild.”
The chief continued that after the negotiations, “the guy deleted all the pictures from the camera and stored it on a pen drive; this was the main reasons why the media upon seeing me among the nude pictures thought I was the mastermind behind the dirty act.”
The paper reports that a 17-year old Asamoah Portia, one of the prospective porn stars who had just completed her Basic Education Certificates Examination (BECE) this year at Kitase, submitted her BECE results to Kwamey to aid her secure admission into one of the second cycle institutions.
Asked how the pictures got to the media, a source disclosed that one Agnes Nyarko who happened to be Kwamey’s girl friend, after she was lured to do nude pictures, demanded some money from Kwamey, and since Kwamey could not meet her demands, she took Kwamey’s pendrive (which all the pictures were stored) to sell, leading to the public exposure.
The Crown Prince of Akropong, George Darko, a renowned High-life Star, in an interview described the act as very shameful and irritating.
He said the Chiefs and the elders would not sit down for the hard earned reputation of “the whole Akuapem” to be dragged into the mud.
He continued that the Chiefs and the elders were ready to cope with the media and the law enforcement agencies to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
Nana George Ampem Darko said together with some of the elders and some members of the youth, they “gave Kwamey a hot chase somewhere at the Presbyterian Training College (PTC) upon a tip-off that he was using the place as a hide-out.”
