The National House of Chiefs has commended the former Member of Parliament for Talensi, Robert Nachnab Doameng, for choosing chieftancy over politics.
The House says chieftaincy is a sacred and revered institution and anyone who chooses to become a chief must be given a special commendation.
Robert Nachnab Doameng was recently enskinned as the Paramount chief of Tongo under the skin name Tongorana Kubilsong Nalebegtan. He later resigned from Parliament, setting the stage for a by-election.
Public Relations Officer of the National House of Chiefs, Stephen Owusu in a statement praised Mr. Nachinab Doameng Mosore for his bold decision to denounce politics and take up chieftaincy.
“Chieftaincy is very sacred and revered and any royal who journeys into the institution must be given a royal welcome”, the statement said.
According to the statement, though the 1992 Constitution forbids chiefs from active politics, it enjoins chiefs who want to do so to abdicate their stool or skin. But Mr. Nachinab Doamneng according to the National House of Chiefs abdicated his political seat to embrace royal seat [skin].
The National House of Chiefs is hopeful the ascension of Tongorana Kubilsong Nalebegtan will bring about development in the traditional area.
“Your enskinment should unite all political forces in your traditional area to propel your area for the needed development. The house congratulates”, it said.
