Adom FM’s presenter Akumaa Mama Zimbi has picked up a World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) award for her invaluable contributions to the cause of widows in Ghana.
The award, organised under the tutelage of the Qatar Foundation aims to reward concrete achievements across three categories in education in the world: Pluralism, sustainability and innovation.
Mama Zimbi’s Widows Alliance Network was adjudged the best initiative out of 69 entries on sustainability by a renowned international jury following a rigorous process of adjudication.
The initiative, championed by the Mama Zimbi Foundation, housed over 6,000 widows across the country as a form of security against the barbaric treatments meted out to them by family members of their dead husbands.
She was presented with $20,000 and a unique hand-made trophy modelled on original artwork of Celine Tilliet at a well attended ceremony in Doha.
Five other winners were selected from India, Paraguay, Brazil, Columbia and USA.
Akumaa Mama Zimbi is the first and only African to have won this enviable award.
In an interview with Myjoyonline.com after presenting her award to the CEO of Multimedia, Kwesi Twum and some Board Members of the company, the industrious presenter hoped the award will help expand her foundation to contribute positively to the development of Ghana.
