The body of a man believed to be in his 30s was Tuesday found in front of an internet café at Abossey Okai, across the street from the Central Mosque in Accra.
This, according to residents, brings to four the number of people suspected to have been killed in the neighbourhood in the past one month. Other killings occurred near the Gaskia Cinema Hall at Zabon Zongo and Laterbiokorshie, but has not be confirmed by the police.
Tuesday’s victim, yet to be identified by the police, was said to have been murdered in the early hours of the day.
A resident told The Ghanaian Times newspaper that the man, who used to sell cocoa drinks for a living, used the frontage of a single storey shopping complex as his sleeping place. He said at about 4am when he went out to fetch water from the compound of the shopping complex, he noticed that blood was dripping from the first floor to the ground. “I called two other neighbours to the spot where we saw the body of a man lying in a pool of blood,” he said, and added that the body was partly covered with a blanket.
The Kaneshie District Police Commander, Superintendent Iddrisu Abu Yakubu, who led a team to the crime scene, said full investigations would be conducted immediately to find the perpetrators.
He asked people to be security conscious and to stop sleeping outdoors to avoid such incidents. The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital.
