The Volta Regional Police command is on the hunt for Constable Peter Owusu of the Police Service stationed at Payin near Dzodze, for allegedly raping a girl, 14, who was in custody for slashing a boy with a cutlass.
The constable is said to have taken advantage of the girl's arrest and forcibly had sex with her using handcuffs and his gun to threaten to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
He is said to have initially denied the allegation but later admitted the offence after interrogation. He has since gone into hiding and the Police are on a man-hunt for him.
Madam Esther Osei, a teacher at Payin L/A Primary School who accompanied the girl and her parents to the hospital, recounting the incident to Citi FM’s midday news said, “There was a misunderstanding between the girl and a certain boy. Through the struggling, the girl was holding a cutlass which she used to cut the boy so they arrested her and locked her in a cell.”
“So the next day we went for her and she complained that the policeman had sex with her. He forced her using handcuffs and his gun threatening her. He used [had sex with] her twice. When we went to the Police to collect medical forms to go to the hospital, the policeman [accused] also confirmed that he did the thing. They invited the parents and the child to Ho, they were interviewed and their statements were taken...,” she added.
