The National Council of the New Patriotic Party has settled on February 6, 2010 as the date for its National Delegates conference.
The conference will be used to elect new national executive officers to serve the party for the next four years.
This was confirmed by Nana Ohene Ntow General Secretary of the NPP in an interview with Joy News’ Bernard Saibu on Thursday.
Even though the conference was supposed to have been held in December, 2009, the general secretary explained the expansion of the Electoral College has delayed constituency and regional elections, two major elections that should precede the National elections.
He dismissed reports the new date was as a result of several postponement saying, the earlier dates were only proposals from the National Steering Committee and the National Executive Committee of the party which were all subject to approval by the National Council.
Even though he admits financial constraints were always going to be a challenge, he dismissed assertions that the conference was postponed due to lack of funds.
Ohene Ntow will be battling with key party officials like Nkrabea Effa-Darteh, Mr Yaw Buaben Asamoa, for the General Secretary position of the party.
For the chairmanship position, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Dr Wereko-Brobby, Stephen Ntim, Felix Owusu Agyapong have so far publicly declared their intention to vie for the position.
