Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini has discovered that, in the future, bacon will cure cancer and computers will cater to our every need.
Of course, the "discovery" was little more than a skit during his keynote speech Thursday at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show featuring a pair of hapless Intel employees, but it underscored Otellini's quest to put computing at the center of everyone's lives, and an Intel processor at the center of everyone's computer.
"Our goal is very simply to have our architecture provide the brains to anything with a power source," Otellini said.
The latest example: Otellini announced technology Thursday that a new technology, dubbed Intel Wireless Display has been built into Intel's latest processors. On January 17, Best Buy will begin selling laptops from Dell, Sony, and Toshiba that will be able to stream digital media to televisions with the help of an adapter from Netgear.
Otellini also revealed a beta version of a software store called Intel AppUp. Intel is starting with netbooks form Acer, Asus, Dell, and Samsung, but the plan is to eventually expand the program to include applications for devices such as PCs, handheld devices, smart phones, and televisions.
