The NDC UK & Ireland Chapter has joined the Christian Council, Peace Council, Chiefs and statesmen in Ghana to appeal to the doctors to call off their strike and go back to the negotiation table.
The group in a statement also demanded that communications surrounding the strike are done with circumspection as they caution against any form of badmouthing.
“Recently we have been monitoring media speculations, accusations and counter- accusations and would like to call for ceasefire and allow patriotism to prevail,” the statement issued by Michael Frempong, PRO NDC UK & Ireland Chapter, said.
The NDC UK & Ireland Chapter said it is pleased with government's “willingness and commitment” to carry on with negotiations to find amicable solution to the impasse.
“Members of UK & Ireland Chapter will like to appeal to the doctors to respect the Labour law 2003, Act 651 and call off their strike. Bargaining with the lives of Ghanaians is regrettable,” the statement said.
It is therefore appealing to all public sector workers to use all available avenues to resolve their grievances instead of resorting to strike actions.
The Ghana Medical Association declared strike on July 30 over conditions of service of members in the public sector. The doctors have set an August 14, 2015 date to either to call off a two-week old strike or resign en masse.
