The Atwima Nwabiagya District Director of Education, Mrs Dinah Appiah, has expressed concern about the increasing indiscipline among some teachers. She said this had made the public not to have much respect for teachers. Mrs Appiah made the observation when interacting with some teachers at Nkawie-Ashanti, at the end of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) on Friday. She asked teachers to exhibit a high sense of professional discipline and competence to win the confidence, sympathy and respect of the public. Mrs Appiah asked teachers especially the women not to indulge in indecent dressing to school and advised them to desist from such acts that would affect the image, credibility and dignity of the teaching profession. She noted that it was the responsibility of teachers to promote quality educational programmes that would help the children acquire specialised knowledge and skills to solve problems. "The school remains the most effective and efficient way to transmit knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are needed for full human development," she added. Mrs Appiah asked teachers to provide structural, systematic learning and planned opportunity for developing positive values and healthy attitudes for learning appropriate behaviours. She advised teachers to make education affordable, accessible and gender sensitive to create equality of learning opportunities to promote relevant curricula and child-centred teaching and learning processes.
