A police officer of the Ashaiman Police command has been arrested for allegedly conniving with three armed others to rob a container load of sugar on Monday.
Kingsley Yabanyi was arrested Thursday by the Tema regional police following a tip off from Adjei Kufuor, who owns the 800 bags of sugar.
Yabanyi with three others was alleged to have stopped Stephen Boadu, driver of the container-load of sugar at the Tema Motorway over allegations his vehicle lacked the necessary documents.
The driver told Joy News he was put into a black jeep destined for the police station. But midway into the journey, Yabanyi and his accomplices had a change of mind and decided to set him free.
On his return to the Motorway, his truck and its content were missing. He then lodged a complaint with the Tema police for investigations to commence.
Narrating how the police officer was nabbed, Adjei Kufuor told Adom FM’s Kofi Adoma that he spotted the black jeep with registration number GT 3229Z that was used in arresting his driver.
The jeep he said was then heading to Kumasi.
He later informed the Tema Regional Police after which it was discovered that the jeep belonged to Kingsley Yabanyi.
Further investigations he said exposed Yabanyi’s complicity in the theft culminating in his arrest.
Kingsley Yabani is assisting with investigations to find the whereabouts of the sugar container and the three accomplices.
