New Patriotic party stalwart, Yaw Osafo Marfo is warning of political instability should the electoral commission fail to review the current voters’ register.
The opposition party has alleged that names of more than 76,000 Togolese nationals are captured in Ghana’s electoral data.
The party presented the evidence to the EC, asking the elections governing body to review the current register.
The National Democratic Congress has rubbished the claims by the NPP.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, general secretary of the governing party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said the claim is ‘’fraudulent and frivolous.’’
However, Mr Osafo Maafo says the NPP’s findings are an ‘’amazing and evidence beyond doubt.’’
‘’Your guess is as good as mine. Stability is what we are all looking for. So if the electoral commission wants us to start the whole process on a firm footing, on a peaceful environment then this overwhelming evidence for a bloated, fraudulent register, [should be looked at again],’ the former finance minister told JOYNEWS' Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah
‘’There are certain things you don’t take for granted. Nobody will allow a president to be elected based on this register. That one, bear it in mind. Why should we (NPP) allow it? If it has been proven that the voter’s register is flawed, why should any Ghanaian allow a Togolese vote for our president?’’ he quizzed.
Meanwhile, the electoral commission says it is looking into the claims of the NPP and will make public its findings at a later time.
