Juventus suffered their first loss in the 2015/16 Italian Seire A season on the opening weekend after a goal from Cyril Thereau handed Udinese a 1-0 win at the Juventus stadium on Sunday.
Juventus dominated proceedings from the opening whistle and created the first chance on goal in the seventh minute when Paul Pogba unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but the keeper produced a good save to deny him.
But the first half ended 0-0.
Late on, and very much against the run of play, Cyril Thereau scored for Udinese when he turned home a Panagiotis Kone cross, 1-0.
Juventus tried to find their way back into the game, but were unable to do so as they suffered their first loss in their first game of the league season.
The others
There were seven other Serie A games on Sunday night that produced a further 21 goals as Chievo, Fiorentina, Torino, Sampdoria, Palermo and Sassuolo won their respective matches.
Sampdoria were the most impressive on the day with a 5-2 win over Carpi despite being reduced to ten men in the 82nd minute following the sending off of David Ivan.
Chievo were also clinical in front of goal after beating Empoli 3-1 at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.
Fiorentina kept a clean sheet after beating a ten man AC Milan 2-0 while Torino beat Frosinone 2-1 which was the same scoreline that saw Sassuolo defeat Napoli.
Abdelhamid El Kaoutari scored in the dying seconds of the game to see Palermo beat Genoa 1-0 while the match between Inter and Atlanta ended goalless.
Goals by Lucas Biglia and Ricardo Kishna secured a 2-1 win over Bologna and gave Lazio top spot in Saturday’s Serie A opening day.
Third-place finishers last season, Lazio had taken one step towards the Champions League group stages after beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in the first leg of their play-off last week.
Days before the return leg in Germany, Stefano Pioli’s men chalked up their first win of what they hope will be an even more successful season although it came at a price with midfielder Biglia stretchered off with a calf injury in the second half.
Earlier, versatile right-back Alessandro Florenzi struck a second-half leveller in a 1-1 draw at Verona as Roma kicked off their bid for the Serie A title in unconvincing fashion. New signing Edin Dzeko (pictured above) was not inspiring.
