Ghana defender Baba Rahman made his debut for English Champions Chelsea on Wednesday night as they hammered visitors Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 in their opening game of the UEFA Champions League campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old played in his traditional left-back position and put in a cautious display, but still came up with a couple of exciting moments when he showed he could get players his opponents with some ease.
In the first half he hardly received good service from his teammates who apparently were still getting used to him, but the situation improved in the second half.
Over all, it was a measured display from the young defender, but it was clear he could still go several levels higher when he settles into the team.
Meanwhile Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi did not make the Chelsea squad for the game, while rising Burkina Faso forward Bertrand Traore joined the fray on 77 minutes in place of the impressive English talent Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Another Nigeria midfielder Nosa Igiebor played all 90 minutes for Maccabi Tel Aviv and was arguably their most industrious player. He however missed a gilt-edge scoring opportunity in the final stages of the match.
