An Accra-based pastor, is in police custody charged with committing incest.
Nana Kofi Yirenkyi, head pastor of the Jesus One-Touch Church at Oblogo near Weija in the Greater Accra Region is alleged to have had sex with his 10-year-old daughter.
Sources at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) told Joy News a relative of the pastor detected some changes in the bahaviour of the girl and therefore lodged a complaint with the police.
It is unclear how the incident happened.
Nana Kofi Yirenkyi, currently being held at the regional office of DOVVSU, was in the news recently, accused of inserting his fingers into the private parts of the wife of a fellow pastor, Eric Amponsah, alias Computer Man.
In an interview with Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Tuesday, Inspector Irene Oppong of DOVVSU said although the victim has said Nana Yirenkyi has had sex with her on several occassions, the pastor has denied any such act.
Inspector Oppong said Nana Yirenkyi would be held in police custody a while longer as whilst investigations continue. The victim is "in good hands," she said.
Trust
Investigations by the police reveal the strong trust children build with their parents partly accounts for why some fathers defile their daughters, Inspector Oppong disclosed.
"They trust their fathers so much that whatever instructions they, they have to obey them...It's out of the trust that the parents are able to abuse their children," she said.
