The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP Seth Charles Oteng has assured residents of Tuobodom where a chieftaincy dispute left three dead and others injured at the weekend, of enforced security for life and property.
Many of the townsfolk fled the town to nearby villages during the fatal clashes and are now making a slow return, according to the police chief, who said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme on Tuesday that residents should feel safe to return because security agents are manning the town.
The violence was sparked by the arrest on Friday of the chief of Tuobodom, Nana Baffour Asare II by assigns of the chief of Techiman, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV who suspects and accuses the Tuobodom chief of being party to a group of armed men alleged to have attempted to assassinate the Techiman Chief in 2008.
DCOP Oteng confirmed a long search for the chief and his alleged accomplices for investigations, and said on his arrest he was handed over to the local police who verified that he was a wanted person.
Nana Baffour Asare II had just stormed out of the High Court at Techiman where he had brought up a case against a man he accuses of developing a land he had no right to, when he was bundled into a bus, leading to instant speculation of kidnapping.
Seth Oteng said the chief and the other accused persons would be processed for court soon.
