Tension is mounting between students and management of Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Ashanti Region.
Students of the school claim they are being charged exorbitant feeding, hostel and academic user fees by the school.
According to a bill the students showed to Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor, the fees ranged from È» 2,800.00 to È»3, 500.00 per semester, depending on the type of course being offered.
Erastus reports that before vacation, the school’s management amidst protestations cancelled feeding fees but when school reopened, a new administration has reintroduced a compulsory feeding fee of È»600.00 per semester.
Many of the students are angry over the re-introduction of the feeding fees cancelled under the previous administration.
One student says he offers Post Basic Nursing programme and he pays over Ȼ3, 200.00 per semester.
“We were told we were coming to feed ourselves so I came fully prepared and now they are giving us extra bill”, he stated.
Some students also claim that school authorities have seized their cooking utensils and other cooking items and have forced them to eat from the dining hall.
“My gas cylinder, cooking utensils were seized by the school authorities on the day we reported” one student told Luv News.
Meanwhile, Principal of the school, Ruby Adomah when contacted, directed Erastus Asare Donkor to the Ministry of Health for answers to the students’ queries.
