There were four African teams in the beginning but only two are left to redeem the continent's image af the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
Guinea and South Africa have crashed out after their inability to scale groups B and E respectively. But the two who have made the round of 16 begin the quest to progress later on Wednesday.
The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will lock horns with Australia for a place in the quarter-finals at 11pm Ghana time in Vina Del Mar.
Ordinarily this would be an easy fixture for the Nigerians, who have won all five of their previous fixtures against the Australians, scoring 12 goals and conceding just two.
However, after losing their last game against Croatia, Nigeria coach Emmanuel Amuneke will not be taking chances tonight. The former Super Eagles winger has warned that they will leave no stone unturned against the Joeys.
He will be hoping that top striker Victor Osimhen continues his fine scoring form though. The youngster has netted in every game so far and is the tournament's top scorer with four goals.
Osimhen is bidding to become the third Nigerian to be named top goalscorer in the tournament's history after Macauley Chrisantus in 2007 and Wilson Oruma back in 1993.
RESULTS SO FAR
Nigeria 2-0 USA, Nigeria 5-1 Chile, Nigeria 1-2 Croatia
Australia 1-4 Germany, Australia 0-0 Mexico, Australia 1-0 Argentina.
Later on Thursday, African cnhampions Mali play North Korea.
