Security officers have whisked away the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Yendi following death threats on his life by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area.
The youth of the ruling party in Yendi have vowed to carry out their threat to kill the MCE for the area if government does not heed their calls to remove him.
They accuse the MCE, Imoro Hudu Welvis, of creating division within the party and taking unilateral decisions that do not benefit supporters of the party.
Scores of the party’s youth besieged the MCE’s offices on Sunday demanding that the MCE be sacked or risk losing his life.
This is the second time the youth have gone on a protest to demand Mr Welvis’ dismissal.
Youth Secretary for the NDC in Yendi, Mohammed Shaibu Shiani, tells Joy News the youth have resorted to the use of violence to address their grievances, because government has persistently failed to act.
“We are calling on the President and we know [he] is a listening one and that he will listen to our plight,” Mr Shiani told Joy News’ Araba Koomson.
Meanwhile Northern Regional Minister Moses Mabengba says the concerns of the youth will be communicated to the President.
Violent trend
The incident involving angry NDC youth is just the latest in a series of recent incidents where NDC youth have taken matters into their own hands and gone on the rampage to get government to address their concerns.
Only last week irate NDC youth locked up the party office in Accra demanding the dismissal of former chairman of the Confiscated Assets Committee, Carl Wilson.
National Youth Organizer of the NDC, Ludwig Hlodze, blames the disturbances simply on poverty and unemployment.
