Kumasi Asante Kotoko look set to snub a May 9 reconciliation match after telling the Ministry of Sports in no uncertain terms they are not interested in playing their arch rivals Hearts of Oak.
The Sports Ministry is planning the match between the two bitter rivals nine years after 126 football fans died in a game between them at the now Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.
But Kotoko spokesman Ali Maradona insists that unless Hearts of Oak officially withdraw their earlier statement that they want nothing in friendly matches with Kotoko after the disaster, Kotoko will not take part.
"We have said we will not play in that friendly match and that has not changed", he told Peace FM. "Hearts said they did not want to be dealing with us after the May 9 incident and as far as we know, that has not changed."
Tensions between the two sides have not abated much since 126 fans died in a League match which Hearts of Oak won 2-1.
The death, triggered by police reaction to chair hurling Asante Kotoko fans who were protesting what they said was Ishmael Addo's offside winning goal has been a blot on Ghana football for a while.
But whiles games between them continues to draw big crowds, there is still a certain measure of anger in Hearts quarters that no fans were prosecuted for the violence that triggered the police reaction.
