Multi-TV’s fantastic ‘4’ action kicked-off at the famed Signal Iduna arena, home of Borussia Dortmund.
Werder Bremen, their (Dortmund) opponents for the afternoon, lay in 5th behind Dortmund, one place and one point adrift of automatic Champions League qualification.
Early goals from Kevin Grosskreutz and Neven Subotic ensured Dortmund put daylight between themselves and Bremen and now reside a mere point behind 3rd placed Leverkusen.
Bremen did manage to pull a goal back through Aaron Hunt but may have to settle for a Europa League place with only five games remaining to the end of the season.
French Ligue 1 defending Champions Bordeaux took on AS Nancy Lorraine in the 2nd LIVE match of the day. Bordeaux were looking to bounce back from a shock 3-1 defeat to Ligue 1 rivals Lyon on Tuesday in the Champions League. Nancy took the lead though Moroccan Youssouf Hadji. Bordeaux’s Fernando Cavenaghi grabbed an equalizer before the break as the champions cranked up the pressure. A third consecutive defeat followed for Les Girondins, however, as the much sought after Issiar Dia scored a superb solo goal against the run of play after 72 minutes. Bordeaux lie in 3rd place, one point behind leaders Lyon, but with two games in hand.
Kwadwo Asamoah’s relegation threatened Udinese, took centre stage next in the Italian Serie A, where their quest for survival would depend largely on victory against Italy’s most successful team, Juventus. Juventus themselves are having one of their worst seasons ever in the top flight and Udinese added to their considerable misery with a well deserved 3-0 drubbing. The victory, at the Stadio Friuli, pulled Udinese 3 points clear of the drop zone. Udinese’s three strikers Alexis Sanchez, Simone Pepe and Antonio Di Natale were all on target for the hosts. Their 12th defeat of the season, finds the Old Lady of Turin three points behind the top four and in danger of missing out on European qualification.
Easter Saturday concluded in the colorful Spanish La Liga, where Sevilla FC would take on Tenerife. Sevilla FC had failed to win any of their previous eight competitive matches and last week lost 3-0 at Villarreal, a result that left them two points off the Champions League places. First-half goals from strike duo Frederic Kanoute and Luis Fabiano gave Sevilla a deserved half-time lead against Tenerife and they wrapped up their biggest league win since September when Jose Carlos curled home a late free-kick. The victory provisionally moves Sevilla back into fourth place, a point ahead of Real Mallorca who play Almeria on Sunday, and with just eight rounds left in the season it was a much-welcomed return to winning ways.
Europa League quarter-final action continues this Thursday on Adom TV and Joy Sports on Multi-TV. Liverpool must overturn a 1-2 reversal to Benfica at Anfield and Fulham need to defend a 2-1 lead, away to German Champions Wolfsburg. See you then.
